The debut album from the Ukrainian doom metal band Vin de Mia Trix entitled "Once Hidden From Sight" is now officially released and available in both CD format in a luxurious 12 page booklet with full lyrics and as a name-your-price (free) download from Bandcamp!!
"After numerous gigs (including Doom Over Kiev, Moscow Doom Fest, and supporting Saturnus, Mourning Beloveth and Autumnia among others), a self-released demo and an EP, Vin de Mia Trix comes up with their debut full-length “Once Hidden From Sight.” Blending together various doom sub-genres, the album from the Ukrainian band is a culmination of over 3 years of writing and perfecting their own sound. Lengthy mid-tempo opuses with crushing funeral riffs morphing into melancholic acoustic passages create a mysterious and dark atmosphere with songs rooted between Funeral and Death/Doom Metal, but incorporating bits of Black Metal, Post-Rock, Progressive Metal, Blues and some other genres. Co-released by Hypnotic Dirge Records and Solitude Productions with a 12-page booklet with lyrics included, “Once Hidden From Sight” offers every fan of dark music something for the soul!"
Our free access philosophy has been put into practice for this release! For many reasons, including the desire of the band and for the first time ever for a CD release, we are offering "Once Hidden From Sight" as a FREE DIGITAL DOWNLOAD in its entirety!! You can of course still show your support by donating something when you download or by buying the CD version.
Vin de Mia Trix put out a statement on the decision to release the album for free:
"As we’ve already announced, our album ‘Once Hidden From Sight’ will be available for FREE download in its entirety from our Bandcamp page upon its release on Monday, August 26.
And we’d like to note that it’s not only an experiment for us, showing if we manage to earn more this way. Obviously an underground band like ours doesn’t really expect to earn much with our music, anyway it’s not our raison d’être.
What matters is that the world we live in is changing very fast, and the music industry today is facing a tremendous shift of values. There is a very good book we’d recommend to all the young musicians around, which is called ‘Music in the Digital Age’. It can be found here https://leanpub.com/dubber. Note that the download policy obeys the same ‘name-your-price’ principle, which conforms perfectly to the views put forward in the book by Andrew Dubber.
Without retelling you the whole story (really, read the book – it’s not long at all), let us underline a few basic points that we stick to:
1. The rules assigned to the music industry by the Internet are quite different from those relevant in the previous period, the age of television and major labels. It is useless to try making time go backwards (e.g. forcing people to buy your CDs by suing hosting services).
2. Digital data cannot have any objective value, because it is, unlike printed stuff, perfectly replicable. Physical copies require resources to be produced and are always limited in number. Digital data, on the other hand, can be copied to infinity for free. It is therefore clear, that you cannot set a price for digital stuff the same way that you do in case of printed material.
3. Quoting Dubber, ‘You don’t have the right to make money from your music – only the opportunity.’ And ‘people aren’t giving you money for your music, but because of it (and because of everything that goes along with it that gives it richer and deeper meaning)’.
We respect the listener’s rights as much as the author’s. We are listeners ourselves. That’s why we give you choice. Support the band and/or our labels, if you can (be it half a buck). And if you can’t, please spread the word and share the album with your friends.
And of course we incite all of you to buy the physical copy for your collection, the artwork is worth it.
Thank you. Keep it doomed!"
