Omination are a project from Tunisia of all places, starting life as a solo project before becoming a full band on their third album, NGR (short for New Golgotha Repvblic. No, really.) They refer to themselves as Apocalyptic Funeral Doom, which mostly means Funeral Doom with a sense for atmosphere that borders on theatrical with its heavy incorporation of massive funeral organs and a spacious production that makes the whole thing sound like it's being recorded in some old cathedral during the end of days. They're a bit faster than usual for the genre, with active drum work and tempo changes that sometimes border on Doom/Death, and they wrap it all in sweeping guitar work that's occasionally stunning and commanding howls of despair. They can go on longer than they really need to, and at nearly 90 minutes the album is too long even for Funeral Doom, but for this kind of thing, such excess is more of a feature than a bug. Songs like "Necropolis, The Backbone" and "The Sword That Came Out of His Mouth" are about as good as Funeral Doom gets, and they even manage a solid cover of Skepticism's "Nothing" to top it all off. Not to be missed.
