Hypnotic Dirge featured in a new book "Exile Off Main St." about the Saskatoon Music Scene!
The book was written by local music and film writer/commentator Craig Silliphant and released on September 28, 2013.

But after 25 years of involvement in Saskatoon's music scene, both as a writer and band member, Silliphant can safely be called an expert in that area. He is intimately familiar with what makes the local music scene special. Both size and weather have big roles to play.

"Around here, there are less people. It's more incestuous probably, sometimes that's not a bad thing, sometimes it is. A lot of people support things they probably wouldn't support in a bigger city. You'll see a Karpinka Brother at a Shooting Guns show, a folk artist at a stoner rock show," said Silliphant.
"Also, eight months of jarring winter can be an incubator for music sometimes. What do you do when you can't go outside? You grab a bottle of Southern Comfort and pick up a guitar and go in the basement and jam."
Exile Off Main St. takes a wide look at the local music community, past and present, from all genres of indie music to the symphony. It examines what music means in a smaller, isolated city like Saskatoon."

I bought the book yesterday and am already over half way through it (and its quite a dense book at almost 400 pages.)
Enjoyable read so far and discovering that there are a lot more worthy independent bands in Saskatoon than I originally thought!
