Swampborn is an experimental/post-black metal band from Russia, founded in 2011 by Rgrd (all instruments) and Sur (vocals). Originally based in a depressive industrial city, the band later relocated to Saint-Petersburg where it continued working on its debut full-length album “Beyond Ratio”.
Swampborn incorporates a myriad of black metal styles and influences into a sound that is still cohesive and purposeful, driven forward with blazing riffs, blast beats, and an aggressive raspy vocal performance. It is on that foundation that Swampborn weaves dissonant guitar melodies and the occasional flourish of keys amid progressive song structures. There are times on the record when Swampborn sound quite conventional and other times where they really lean into their avant-garde side, but one thing that is certain is that you should expect the unexpected on “Beyond Ratio” and you are bound to be surprised by how these songs flow and maneuver over the course of the record.
Lyrical themes on “Beyond Ratio” range from topics of existential horror, the decay of urban life, and the metaphysical death of the soul.
After a lengthy period of composition and refinement, Swampborn will present its debut album “Beyond Ratio” through Hypnotic Dirge Records in the spring of 2022!
