I’d never heard of the band Galaktik Cancer Squad before Hypnotic Dirge sent their new album “Ghost Light” through to me but what i can tell you about these German progressive black metallers is that they is actually a he, a one man project of Argwohn and despite only being in existence for two years is now on to his fourth album, now that is a relentless rate of releases! My concern at such a rapid rate of release would the issue of quantity over quality but this isn’t half bad, good melody woven into a dense fabric of cold stabbing riffs and fast furious black metal barrages. Indeed the progressive element of the music is out front for all to hear, huge amounts of melody run through the veins of this project and instead of a one speed assault that a lot of black metal offers up, you can hear instead a large amount of care and thought has gone into the making of “Ghost Light”

As well as the free flowing melody and superb solos is the constant rumble in the background of the double kick drums, yet another brick in the wall of the stunning atmosphere that this record kicks up. For me the stand out track of this five song release is “When the Void Whispers My Name” but to be honest you’d be hard pressed to find a band song amongst this set. From start to finish a thoughtful and thought provoking record from a man who clearly puts a lot of love and attention into the darker side of things!'

Really, it seems to good to be true but this is a one man band. Argwohn executes his compositions to a higher degree of level in all his music and Ghost Light is no different. A...
