Joining forces with Throats Productions, today we have Hypnotic Dirge Records unleashing another brilliant release filled with Atmospheric Black Metal goodness. “Origins” is a split release between USA’s Ah Ciliz and Italy’s one-man outfit Chiral. Featuring a total of five crushing tracks, we are left with great impressions from both of this promising bands.

Opening with Ah Ciliz, the band unleashes the raw power...

If it feels like it’s only been a few months since we last heard from Italian one-man black metal project Chiral, that’s because it actually has only been a few months since we last heard from Chiral. It was just this past June, after all, when our friends at Fólkvangr Records reissued the one-man project’s gorgeous 2016 record Gazing Light Eternally on cassette with newly recorded bonus track “The Gazer’s Throne,” and...

Review from Toilet Ov Hell

(Mini-review)

Ah Ciliz is yet another duo from the land of carbs, and boy do they throw a happy marinara sauce over everything! A stereotypical-bell-cutting-through-wind theme kicks off the split before bursting into one of those uncommonly upbeat black metal tremolos. Minus the fluffy vocals, I get a strong Astronoid vibe from them. The drumming could be a little tighter, but the gritty vocals and melodic guitar play off each other i...

As the seasons change, and the colors of autumn leaves briefly flare like blood and fire, only to be sapped of life and scattered by cold winter winds, it’s not uncommon for our thoughts to turn darker as the days become grayer. Daily tribulations seem magnified, grim memories push back to the surface, reflections on what might have been crowd away hopes of what might be. At such times, some of us search for music that catches t...

An ice cold sky oppressively weighing itself down upon us. The night could never feel colder than when ringing out over the wastelands of Europe, Black Metal takes its evil standing. Chilling through your ears. Black Metal lends itself to experimentation and atmosphere in a way like no other Metal genre. Italy doesn’t exactly get the most attention when it comes to Metal or Black Metal, even. Ah Ciliz and Chiral are up and comers from Ita...

On November 6th, the record labels Hypnotic Dirge Records and Throats Productions are releasing a new split together. Origins, as it is called, will contain music from the atmospheric black metal bands Ah Ciliz and Chiral. I already know Chiral's music, but this will be my first time listening to Ah Ciliz. Curious!

Ah Ciliz started in 2008 as a solo project of Elmer, but nowadays Boris Iolis takes care of Ah Ciliz's vocals. You ...

Out on November 6th 2017, atmospheric post black metal band, Chiral will release a split album with atmospheric black metal band, Ah Ciliz. The split, entitled ‘Origins’, will be out via Hypnotic Dirge Records and Throats Productions.

Ah Ciliz get the album started with a trio of icy cold, dripping in dark atmosphere tracks. Cascadia has all the harder elements that will get a black metal fan excited but also includes plenty of me...

I’ve covered a few splits over the course of the last few months, and they’ve all been fantastic, oddly enough. It seems that 2017 has been a great year for all types of albums from full-lengths to splits, and I recently found out about another of the latter that peaked my interest, to say the least. I’ve been a fan of Chiral ever since his first full-length album, but this time his partners in crime are the US duo of Ah...

Today I want to tell you about an upcoming split album by Ah Ciliz and Chiral called “Origins”, which was granted to me for free by band members of Ah Ciliz for reviewing. This album is to be released on November 6 via Hypnotic Dirge Records, an independent non-profit Canadian music label. You probably already know about this label by their amazing releases of Mavradoxa and Kval I reviewed earlier. This release is also availa...

Part of the effectiveness and fun of discovering split releases is the fact that the listener may be familiar with one artist but not the other, but then subsequently become a new fan of that other band.  Today’s offering was brought to my attention having been a huge fan of Chiral but knowing nothing of Ah Ciliz.

From Hypnotic Dirge: ”
